Still Here!
Ohmygosh, so little time these days for blogging! It is hard to blog in little chunks, a few minutes here a few minutes there, which seems like all I ever have these days. Here's a few things that have been happening that I've been meaning to post about...

  • Emma has a top tooth! It came out about a week ago. The second top one is close behind...I'm thinking any day. She has been super drooly today (and, unfortunately perhaps, has learned how to spit, too) so maybe thats a sign?

  • In addition to teething heavily, she is sick! Again! The thing I hate most about it (other than seeing her uncomfortable, of course) is having to sleep with her and me propped up precariously on pillows (so she doesn't get so congested). Well, sleep is a generous term for it, as it is mostly a lot of coughing (her) and attempting to nurse (her), flopping about to try and get comfortable (both of us) and whining/crying (both of us again). Well, I haven't shed a tear yet but sometimes I'm close.

  • She has also almost mastered a wonderful skill we dub "feet first". She has really almost got it getting off the bed, which is something I have worried about for a long time and will be really glad to stop worrying about. The stairs are still a precarious activity, which involves her jutting her foot out in front of her, then trying to figure out how it is going to get down that step ahead of her hands. She can't quite remember to turn herself around until she has dwaddled at the edge for quite awhile. And once she is down one stair she thinks she is done and either tries to sit down (which means she would fall backwards if I didn't catch her) or she climbs right back up to where she started. Silly baby!

  • In other news, I finished our taxes. Last night! With a whole 24+ hours to spare! I hate doing them but generally they don't take that much time, when you get right down to it. But not fun. Especially when you'd rather be blogging. I haven't been letting myself work on posts until I finished them (the damn taxes), so instead to procrastinate I google endlessly for things like "baby toddler soft climbing blocks" "climbing toddler toys" "indoor/outdoor climbing toys" etc, etc, etc. Or scour the craigslist baby & kids section for miscellaneous goodies. Now that? Much more fun.

Whats up?
Geewhiz, I have not been a good blogger of late. The kid has been keeping me busy, it seems! Here is a listy bit of things happening.
  • On sleep: Two weeks ago (so, 10ish months) Emma officially "slept through the night"! No wakeups from 10:00pm-4:30am! Huzzah! It was a total fluke, and hasn't reoccurred since. But, it did happen, and I promise I did not make it up!

  • Speaking of sleep, her naps have felt like they have disappeared this week. Five days in a row she only slept for 20 minutes from 7am to 5, then she crashed for another 30 minutes and then was up until 8:30ish. Then today she had 4 naps, one on me in the early morning, two in the car, one in the wrap in a back carry during a walk. So, better. Accumulatively, anyway.

  • She is SOOOO physical these days, trying to climb the bedside table, the baby gates, chairs, the dog. She mastered the stairs three days ago, and is adamant about practicing it whenever she can. She screams at me if I shut the gate so she cannot. She also has almost mastered (not quite) the concept of "feet first" off a step or the bed. I will rest much easier when she really has that down pat.

  • Oiy, the tantrums. Hoooo boy. I know it only gets worse! Right now its kind of funny, and I have to look away so I don't laugh in her face. Luckily its mostly at home when they happen, though today if I hadn't given her back my new glasses case she would have done it right in the eyeglass shop.

  • She is definitely using her three words (dog, mama/mum, daddy) a lot more, and very consciously. It is very cool. She also has started to sign "more" (its actually clapping, but thats pretty close) but only in the high chair when referring to food. She is starting to do the "milk" sign too, though I've only seen it once. Lonnie has seen it more often. When she is with me she just lunges at me and claws/bites my shirt. Nice.

  • Chub. She is getting more of it! Two weeks ago we were in for an ear check at the doctor and she weighed 19lbs, 40z (with clothes on, this time, so a little less actually). But that is up two pounds from her 9 month appointment a month earlier! Wow! For Emma, thats a lot of gain! I swear she is over 20 lbs now, two weeks later, and my arm muscles are showing it (sadly, not my stomach).

  • It is weird and somewhat disconcerting to have my skinny babe chunking up so much now that she is on solids, when everyone else, it seems, have chubby breastfed babies who stretch out & lose the chub as they get older. I know this has to do with my milk supply stuff and that's sometimes a little sad/guilt inducing for me. Of course I know she was always fine developmentally and strong all along, so its not a big deal. Just something I can't help think about sometimes, especially when looking at some of her early super skinny baby pictures...

  • On a cheerier note, a funny story. In the past couple weeks, she has really started waving with enthusiasm. Today, it was a gloriously warm afternoon, so Emma lunched alfresco while Lonnie was mowing. Every time he came by with the mower, she would bust out a huge smile and wave furiously. Then he would go back and she would wait until he returned for the next swipe. More waving. Very little eating happening, too, until he moved on to the front yard. But very cute.

  • More, soonish. Having some trouble loading new photos to the gallery, again. Here's one, though, from tonight:
